Preventative Dentistry

Empowering you to feel confident and knowledgeable about your oral health is important to us.
Dr. Bird believes that education and prevention lead to fewer complications and better outcomes.
Understanding the steps you can take to help keep your teeth beautiful and strong is a win for everyone.
By focusing on prevention, we help patients avoid complicated and costly procedures that often require
 long-term restorative care.

The ADA (American Dental Association) recommends professional cleanings and exams twice a year. During these routine dental visits, we take digital x-rays of the mouth to create a model of your oral cavity. This allows us to better understand and see what is going on inside the teeth and below the gum line. Gum tissue is also assessed so that we can detect and treat any signs of gum disease as early as possible. Without this in-depth preventative care, things such as gum disease can progress very quickly without always being visible to the naked eye. A consistent oral hygiene routine is the most important element in at home prevention. However, even the most committed can experience dental issues. Teeth aren’t just flat squares with smooth surfaces. Bacteria and plaque often find their way into hard to reach areas and stuck in grooves and ridges. This can lead to tartar build-up and eventually gum disease. Professional cleanings twice a year are imperative because they allow Dr. Bird to ensure that problem areas that aren’t as easily reached are cleaned and polished and any plaque is removed. This helps prevent future oral issues and gives you the confidence of a clean, healthy mouth.

Your First Visit

When you arrive at our office, you will be greeted by our friendly staff and escorted to one of our comfortable exam rooms where you will find a television where you can catch up on your favorite Netflix show during your visit. We will take full digital X-rays of your mouth, perform an oral cancer screening, and thoroughly clean your teeth and gums. While cleaning, we will examine your mouth and check for any potential problems. If we spot anything, we will take the time to discuss the next steps. Dr. Bird will give you all your options so that you can make an informed decision. Whether you simply need a deeper cleaning or a more serious procedure is necessary, Windmill Dentistry is dedicated to your health and wellbeing.
