Restorative Dentistry

Restorative Dentistry

At Windmill Dentistry, we use preventative care and patient education to help keep gums and teeth healthy. There are times, however, when problems can occur. Sometimes decay or trauma can cause damage to teeth and restoration becomes necessary.

This can include things like:
• Fillings
• Crowns
• Bridges
• Dentures
• Root Canals

Dr. Bird understands the pain and embarrassment that damaged or missing teeth can cause. Using restorative measures to help patients find that confident smile again is one of the most rewarding parts of his day.

Dental Crowns & Bridges

Dental crowns cover damaged teeth and help restore them to their natural size and shape. At Windmill Dentistry we show our patients the extent of the damage via imaging from our intra-oral camera. Then, we explain all of their options so they can decide for themselves how they would like to proceed. Sometimes, multiple crowns are used to anchor a bridge that closes the gap where a tooth or multiple teeth are missing. This process usually involves placing a crown on each of the teeth on either side of the gap. Then, an artificial tooth is anchored to the crowns and placed where the gap once was. Dr. Bird has extensive experience in dental crowns and bridges. When tooth repair is necessary, we can help restore your smile and give you back the confidence you deserve.

Dentures

The number of Americans without any teeth at all is climbing every day and is currently at over 35 million. Complete tooth loss can occur due to:

• Age
• Decay
• Trauma
• Cancer
• Gum disease

Regardless of the cause, it greatly reduces one’s quality of life. Modern, full-mouth dentures are more comfortable than they’ve ever been in the past. As technology is constantly improving, so is the fit and level of customization. 178 million Americans are missing one tooth or more and that number is expected to grow rapidly over the next few years. Sugar-filled diets, poor oral hygiene and busy lifestyles leave many Americans embarrassed by missing teeth. It can affect the way you speak and eat, too. Removable partial dentures can be customized to suit your facial structure and to match the rest of your teeth. Dr. Bird approaches restorations as conservatively as possible and always keeps your best interests in mind.

Root Canal Therapy

When tooth decay goes untreated long enough that it begins to affect the pulp of the tooth, a root canal becomes necessary. Sometimes a root canal is the only way to save a tooth. It essentially becomes your tooth’s last chance. The nerve and pulp have to be removed to stop the spread of infection and the inside of the tooth is cleaned out and sealed. Without this treatment, the infection can spread from the tooth into the gums and jaw bone. As always, Dr. Bird uses gentle methods but if you have been avoiding seeking the treatment you need due to anxiety, ask about your options for sedation. We want everyone to get the care they need and deserve and many patients don’t realize we can help with dental anxiety. If you need more information on restorative procedures or sedation options, you can call our office at (918) 910-5227 and the Windmill Dentistry team will be happy to help.
